Prince William reveals sweet promise for Kate after being quizzed by volunteer
Prince William was out on his first official engagement after Kate's cancer diagnosis.
Prince William has returned to official public duties for the first time after Kate Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis.
The Prince of Wales visited a food distribution charity, Surplus to Supper, in Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey today.
Prince William arrived at the Sunbury Cricket Club where the charity has its headquarters, sporting a casual navy blue jacket as he was greeted outside.
William rolled up his sleeves, helping to make bolognese sauce in the kitchen before loading the meals into delivery vans.
William was handed get-well soon cards for Kate and King Charles by volunteer Rachel Candappa, MailOnline and The Sun report.
He said: ‘Oh some cards, oh, you’re very kind. Thank you very much, that’s very kind of you.’
When the volunteer told William to look after Kate, he placed his left hand on her shoulder and said ‘I will.’
He then changed the subject to the food they were making: ‘You’ve got some spaghetti hoops? I’ve got children, I love spaghetti hoops.’
He was also pictured squeezed into the passenger seat of one of the vans.
The Prince of Wales is then expected to visit a youth centre in west London which receives food parcels from the organisation.
The Palace said: ‘Reducing food waste has a considerable number of environmental benefits, including reducing emissions from landfill that contribute to climate change.’
‘Protecting the environment for future generations is one of the Prince of Wales’s key priorities.’
It is not the first time William has made bolognese.
Kate revealed in 2019 that William used to cook it for her during their university days, The Mirror reported.
Founded in 2017, Surplus to Supper sources and distributes an average of 10 tons of food per week to food banks, schools, care homes, religious organisations and youth centres.
For the past three-and-a-half weeks, Prince William has been with his wife and children for the Easter holidays.
The family took time away from the limelight to process Kate’s cancer diagnosis after the 42-year-old revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy as part of her treatment.
William’s last public engagement was on March 19 when he visited Sheffield to promote his Homewards homelessness campaign.
Kensington Palace previously said that Prince William would resume public engagements after the school holidays, on a reduced timetable as he continues to support Kate through her treatment.
His visit across west London comes just days after the 41-year-old was spotted with Prince George at an Aston Villa match last week.
Prince George, aged 10, who is second in the line of succession, sported an Aston Villa scarf and the pair were seen smiling and applauding.
The Princess of Wales, William and their three children all missed the Easter Sunday service Windsor castle following Kate’s cancer announcement in March.
Kate underwent abdominal surgery in January at the London Clinic – at the same time as King Charles was getting treatment at the same facility. Her cancer was discovered in post-operative tests after the operation.
Her video message to the nation helped the Royal Family to put the ‘Katespiracy’ behind them.
In her video message, Kate asked for time, space and privacy for her family amid the announcement.
She said: ‘I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.
‘It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay.’
King Charles is planning to visit Australia after starting his cancer treatment.
The Monarch is planning a two-week trip to Australia, New Zealand and Samoa with Queen Camilla in October, sources told The Sun.
Posting on the couples’ official X account KensingtonRoyal, Kate and William expressed their shock after the fatal knife attack inside Sydney’s Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre on Saturday.
The post said: ‘We are shocked and saddened by the terrible events in Sydney earlier today. Our thoughts are with all those affected, including the loved ones of those lost and the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others.’
