American Indian and minority-owned Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC) has received a final approval for its acquisition of three coal mines in Montana and Wyoming. The US District Court of Delaware last week approved the sale of substantially all of bankrupt miner Cloud Peak Energy’s assets, clearing the way for the mines to the transferred to NTEC.

Cerrejon, one of Colombia's largest coal mines, will reduce its operations by up to 18% because of a fall in international prices and amid an ongoing court case, the company's chief executive said on Monday. Colombia, the world's fourth-largest exporter of coal, faces a potential spending crunch next year as royalties from the fuel decline amid a supply glut and slowing economic growth in China.

Finland-focused explorer Karelian Diamonds has raised £50 000 through a subscription of 1 428 571 new ordinary shares of €0.00025 each, at a price of 3.5p each. The net proceeds of the subscription will be applied for general working capital purposes.

JSE- and NYSE-listed Gold Fields on Monday released its inaugural climate-related financial disclosure (CFD) report for 2018. Diversified miner Glencore has entered into a five-year agreement to supply cobalt hydroxide to Chinese battery metals producer GEM Co. Under the terms of the agreement, Glencore will provide GEM with at least 61 200 t of cobalt hydroxide between 2020 and 2024.

ASX-listed Bowen Coking Coal has struck a non-binding term sheet with a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, over the Hillalong coking coal project, in Queensland. The two companies have agreed to negotiate the terms of a formal and legally binding earn-in agreement, under which Sumitomo could earn an initial 10% interest in the project by spending A$2.5-million on exploration, and the right to earn an additional 10% interest by providing a further A$5-million in funding.
