Michael Chandler vs. David Rickels rematch added to Bellator 145
Michael Chandler is getting a familiar opponent in his home state.
Fitting in with the event name, Chandler will face David Rickels in a rematch at Bellator 145: Vengeance on Nov. 5 in St. Louis, Bellator announced Tuesday.
Chandler (13-3), the former Bellator lightweight champ, is coming off a first-round submission win over Derek Campos at Bellator 138 in June. Before that, he lost three in a row, but two were controversial decision losses to Eddie Alvarez and Will Brooks. Brooks beat Chandler last November via fourth-round TKO to win the vacant Bellator lightweight belt. Chandler, 29, was undefeated before that losing streak.
One of the men he beat during that run was Rickels -- by knockout in 44 seconds -- in July 2013. Rickels (16-3, 1 NC) has just one loss in four fights since then. Most recently, he and John Alessio fought to a no-contest at Bellator 139 in June when Rickels landed an accidental illegal knee to Alessio's head. Rickels, 26, has a knockout of fellow Bellator lightweight contender Saad Awad on his record.
Bellator 145: Vengeance is headlined by a featherweight title trilogy bout between Patricio Freire and Daniel Straus. In the co-main event, Will Brooks defends his lightweight title in a rematch against rival Marcin Held. Bobby Lashley will also be on the card against an opponent to be named.
