Every now and then I come across a product that just amazes me. This happens fairly often with software where the current rate of innovation is off the charts but when it comes to hardware being amazed happens a lot less often and products require a serious “wow” factor to get me excited. But “wow” was exactly what happened when I set up the Amazon Echo.

Arista reportedly suffered a setback in its litigation with Cisco that caused its stock to drop almost 6% this week. According to Investor’s Business Daily, International Trade Commission attorneys determined Arista infringed on three Cisco patents, causing the company’s stock to drop 5.6% Thursday.

Microsoft yesterday said it will launch Office 2016 for Windows on Sept. 22, and detailed how it will deliver updates and upgrades with a cadence and rules set similar to Windows 10's.

Community Technology Preview (CTP) 2.2 is now available as a public preview of next year’s release. But don’t panic! In this blog entry I will examine three key new features that I found most interesting when exploring the CTP. Specifically, I will be looking at: Always Encrypted, Temporal Data, and the Stretch Database.

Hackers who compromise websites are also increasingly verifying themselves as the owners of those properties in Google's Search Console. Under certain circumstances this could allow them to remain undetected longer than they otherwise would be, researchers warn.

The flurry of activity around Windows 10 post-launch is astounding. I can't recall this much work being done immediately after release for any previous operating systems in the Internet era.

When it comes to threat intelligence, there seem to be two primary focus areas in play:  The threat intelligence data itself and the legislative rhetoric around threat intelligence sharing (i.e. CISA, CISPA, etc.).  What’s missing?  The answer to a basic question:  How do organizations get actual value out of threat intelligence data and threat intelligence sharing in a meaningful way?

There’s been a lot of attention focused lately on the benefits of moving to a software defined networking (SDN) environment. Of course, as with any evolution, making the shift rarely happens overnight, and there are a few real challenges. "The only thing that's changed is everything."

That's Apple's tagline for its shiny new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus smartphones. It has a nice ring to it, right? But there's one hitch: It's not true.

The company's CEO, Tim Cook, acknowledged as much yesterday, during the big iPhone 6s unveil in San Francisco. "While they may look the same, we have changed everything about these new iPhones."

LAS VEGAS -- Apple gave Sprint a little gift this week with the new iPhone 6S in the form of faster wireless speeds via a technology called carrier aggregation.

A California bill that would have forced drones to fly at a minimum height of 350 feet (107 meters) over private property has been vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown in the wake of criticism that it could have damaged the state's drone industry and the economy at large.

In a cybersecurity survey of 485 large colleges and universities, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology came in at the bottom of the list.

After three and a half years of legal wrangling, Ellen Pao will no longer be appealing the discrimination case she filed against venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

iPad alternatives for the enterprise

LAS VEGAS -- In the expanding universe called the Internet of Things, even garbage bins will be networked together wirelessly. That way, a central console -- perhaps one that's monitored automatically -- can know whether a bin has been overturned or is full.

New launches of captive centers offshore continued to increase in the first half of 2015, according to research from outsourcing consultancy Everest Group. Companies in the manufacturing, telecommunications and technology industries, in particular, expanded their in-house presence offshore in the first and second quarters compared to last year. Manufacturers, for example, set up 18 new in-house centers in the first half of this year, compared to just six during the same period in 2014, according to Everest Group. Читать дальше...

Sue Schade worked as a nurse's aide in high school and college, and some members of her family were nurses. But while Schade says she "never thought seriously about being a clinician," she did end up in healthcare -- as an IT professional. Since 2012, Schade has been the CIO at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, where she oversees a 600-member IT team that supports 25,000 people.
