The mayor of Ankara has called for an investigation of "the presence of a seismic ship" in the Aegean Sea in order to determine whether it has anything to do with the earthquake registered there at the same time.

A new large technical fault has taken place in the Mladost neighbourhood at about 17:00 hrs in the vicinity of The Mall, announced heating utility Toplofikatsiya Sofia.

The governments of EU member-states did not manage to reach a final agreement on the creation of a European Prosecutor's Office. The project was vetoed by Sweden.

A total of 948 people have been arrested in Turkey for their status on Facebook and Twitter between the terrorist act at the Beşiktaş stadium on December 10, 2016 and February 6. 248 remain in custody, reported BGNES.

The Council of the European Union adopted on Tuesday the proposal of the European Commission for a three-month extension of internal border control in five problematic countries in the Schengen area for free movement due to the continuing migrant crisis.

The chairman of the Road Infrastructure Agency (API) Doncho Atanasov has ordered the forming of expert units to carry out emergency inspections of all tunnels and facilities in the country.

Reports on their current condition and the measures which have to be adopted must be submitted to the agency by Friday, February 10, announced API.

There are 28 tunnels in the republican road network. These are on the territory of the regions of Sofia, Vratsa, Veliko Tarnovo, Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv and Smolyan.

A new 5.3 - magnitude earthquake rocked early on Tuesday morning the Greek island of Lesbos. The quake was felt on the island of Chios as well, reported Greek media.

The epicentre was about 15 kilometres away on the Asian shore.

This is the third quake with a magnitude of over 5 in the last 24 hours.

Hungary will propose that European borders be protected at the EU level via the automatic detention of all candidates for asylum status. The detention will last until the application of the particular person has been processed fully, stated on Tuesday the spokesperson of the Hungarian government Zoltan Kovacs, cited by The Guardian.

The Echemishka tunnel is reopening to traffic after a lamp fell off the ceiling, hit a car and killed a woman on Sunday, authorities say.

The tunnel is part of a road used by tens of thousands of commuters on a daily basis, but has not undergone repairs since it was carved into the slopes in 1985.

Interim Regional Development Minister Spas Popnikolov has instructed the Road Infrastructure Agency to propose "emergency" options that will reopen it, according to Focus News Agency.
