Bulgaria and Romania Top the Ranking for the Highest Death Rate from Road Accidents
With an average of 92 deaths per million inhabitants, Romania has the highest road death rate in the European Union (EU) in 2021, according to final figures published by the European Commission (EC) on 17 October. Bulgaria is in second place in the ranking with an indicator of 81 deaths per million inhabitants.
In 2021, the road fatality rate in Bulgaria was 21% higher than the previous year, but 11% lower than in 2019.
