Manchester United interesting in signing £36 million midfielder: Report
Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing in RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer in the summer.
According to a report from the German news outlet Bild, the Austrian has one year left on his deal and is already planning for a future outside of the Bundesliga club.
The report adds that Leipzig are looking to get £36 million for Sabitzer, but United may negotiate on the price, with the 27-year-old having just one year left in his contract.
Sabitzer, who has made 46 international appearances and scored 8 goals for Austria, would be an ideal replacement for Nemanja Matic and/or Fred in the midfield for United.
Even though he is not a clear-cut defensive midfielder which is the need of the hour for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, he has played in that position for Austria and Leipzig, and has excelled in the role.
Sabitzer has also scored 50 goals for Leipzig since moving to the club in 2014, and this season alone, he has found the back of the net six times in 21 Bundesliga games.
Sabitzer is also being heavily targeted by Tottenham as per reports and if United are able to seal the deal, it would be a big blow for one of their primary Premier League rivals.
With the futures of Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, and Nemanja Matic uncertain at the Old Trafford, and Fred’s inconsistent displays grabbing headlines, a major revamp in midfield may take place for the Red Devils in the summer. Sabitzer could be one piece of the puzzle.
