'We will see': Erik ten Hag hints €25m star could make his injury return vs Everton
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refused to rule out Christian Eriksen’s return to the matchday squad against Everton on Saturday.
The Denmark international recently made his comeback to first-team training following an extended absence of two months due to an ankle injury.
Ten Hag confirmed that he was not fit enough to make the squad against Brentford on Wednesday but the €25 million-rated star could be involved this weekend.
Speaking to Viaplay via Manutd.com, the manager said that the Dane’s fitness will be assessed in the next two days and did not rule out his availability for Saturday.
He said: “We will see. We see it from day to day. He is progressing. He is now back only this week in team training tomorrow [Thursday] and the day after tomorrow [Friday]. We have two sessions. After that, we will decide if he is back in the squad again.”
Eriksen’s return would be a huge boost for Man Utd
Eriksen has had an outstanding debut season with the Red Devils. He registered two goals and nine assists in all competitions before sustaining an ankle injury.
In his absence, the likes of Fred and Marcel Sabitzer have operated from the number eight position but neither have provided the same level of creativity.
Hence, he has been a big miss for the club since his setback in January. Ten Hag will be eager to reintroduce him to first-team action for the season run-in.
If Eriksen passes the necessary fitness tests, he could make a cameo off the bench against Everton. In our view, the Dane could reclaim his starting spot by late April.
