Manchester United star delivers his verdict on Harry Maguire replacing Raphael Varane against Everton
David de Gea believes that everyone in the Manchester United squad can contribute amid the congested schedule.
The 32-year-old is enjoying a superb season under Erik ten Hag, even though many people believed he would be forced out of the club after the Dutchman’s arrival.
Apart from Lisandro Martinez, all the other three defenders were changed who started against Brentford in midweek.
After United defeated Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford, De Gea lauded his teammates for being ready whenever called upon.
He said to MUTV (via Manchester Evening News): “It doesn’t matter who is playing in the line-up, everyone is ready to play.
“Even people from the bench today, they make a big impact again, so we have a really good squad.
“People are coming back from injuries and, to be honest, it’s great to see everyone in the same direction and fighting for the club.
“Everyone is going to be needed at some point because we have many, many games, and it’s difficult to recover from that, so everyone is ready and training so well and that makes the difference.”
De Gea did not have much to do today against Everton as they offered no attacking threat to United.
He could have earned an assist when he found Antony with a sublime long pass. The ball bypassed Everton’s high line of defence, giving the Brazilian a superb chance to break the deadlock.
However, Everton defender Ben Godfrey obstructed Antony’s path to the goal with a great sliding tackle.
De Gea has kept 13 clean sheets this season. He is leading the race for the Premier League Golden Glove alongside Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, who has kept the same number.
