Firefighters in Massachusetts are continuing to battle stubborn brush fires across the state with officials urging residents to take precautions to help avoid sparking new blazes. Hundreds of acres in the greater Boston area have already burned in the past week with new fires cropping up in the western and central parts of the state. Bolivia's government says supporters of former President Evo Morales have taken more than 200 soldiers hostage as unrest prompted by an abuse investigation of the ex-leader continued for a third week. Authorities say a 5.2-magnitude tremor has hit northern Greece. They say the tremor occurred at 07:03 p.m. local time about 40 kilometers southeast of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. It was followed by a 4.2-magnitude quake four minutes later, along with several smaller tremors. No damage has been reported, but the tremor was felt over a large swathe of northern Greece. A seismologist told The Associated Press that it was highly unlikely that a small local fissure would produce a devastating event.

One of the most startling aspects of Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza has been the destruction wreaked on the territory’s health sector. Over the past 13 months, the Israeli military has besieged and raided at least 10 hospitals, saying the attacks are a military necessity because Hamas uses the facilities as command and control bases. Michigan State Police say four people were killed and 17 others injured overnight after a semitruck crashed into more than a dozen vehicles backed up on Interstate 96 in the southeastern part of the state. Traffic on I-96 near Webberville had been temporarily stopped late Saturday as utility crews were completing work on power lines in the area. A crowd of angry survivors of Spain’s floods have tossed mud and shouted insults at Spain’s King Felipe VI and government officials as they visited one of the hardest hit towns.
