If Trump gets back in, he won’t leave | Letters to the editor
Politically, the beat goes on, for and against Donald Trump.
I am a lifelong registered Republican, and I have voted for the GOP candidate in 12 out of 15 presidential elections. I even voted for Donald Trump in 2016, but not in 2020.
In my opinion, his performance didn’t warrant a second term. Most of my Republican friends continued to support him, which was fine, as the right to disagree on political issues and candidates is at the heart of our democracy.
What I don’t understand is how these people, including most elected Republican office holders, can still support Trump after the insurrection on January 6. The peaceful transfer of power has been a cornerstone of our democracy for more than 230 years and Trump is a major threat to that democracy.
He has demonstrated that he will do anything to cling to power. If he didn’t accept the election results, why should anyone expect him to accept term limits?
Democracy is fragile. Hitler and Putin were both elected before they became dictators. So, if you vote for Trump, you better like him a lot, because it may be the last time you have a chance to vote. Democracy is at stake in this election.

‘Half the country disagrees’
Your editorial board, after another attack on Donald Trump following his Mar-a-Lago fundraiser, asked the rhetorical question: Who are we? (“For Trump, a record haul of money and bigotry,” April 10).
I’m glad to answer: You are victims of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Get help before it burns a hole in your soul.
Half the country disagrees with your choice for president in 2020 and 2024.
Face reality. The horrible policies of the man you have been supporting for almost four years will bring defeat to him and the Democratic Party.
Instead of offering better ideas or a better candidate, all you do is bash Trump. Good luck with that in November.

The most corrupt ever
Republicans, please wake up.
You are about to nominate the most corrupt person to ever run for the presidency.
Donald J. Trump has been convicted of massive civil fraud in his business dealings, found liable for sexual abuse, and has suggested that his former head of the joint chiefs be executed.
He’s now in the first of four trials involving 91 felonies, including stealing and concealing government documents; leading a conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election; peddling false claims about voter fraud in Georgia and concealing hush money payments to a porn star to keep the electorate from knowing.
He has boasted of groping women’s private parts, and his most significant legislative accomplishment as president was giving billions in tax breaks to the very rich.
He’s largely responsible for Roe v. Wade being overturned and has flip-flopped on a national abortion ban, even supporting women to serve jail time for that very personal decision.
Wake up, America. This lifetime fraudster has no business being commander in chief of the United States.

Climate action needed
I’m a grandfather who’s angry about the lack of action on climate.
Many may not have heard about Joe Biden’s latest gift to our future: a groundbreaking regulation that will reduce greenhouse gas pollution from cars by 56% while improving our air quality.
The EPA released a new rule regulating tailpipe emissions that will save the country $99 billion and prevent 2,500 deaths by 2050. While the standards have been adjusted to get the auto industry’s support, they will still push the country toward a greener transportation system. This will protect our health, environment and future.
