Google’s AI ethics drama has taken another twist. Three groups working to promote diversity in AI say they will no longer accept funding from the search giant after a series of controversial firings at the company. Amid the surging wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Google India has launched a new tool that lets you locate your nearest vaccination center. India opened up its vaccination program for all adults aged above 18 on May 1. To use this new tool, you can just type, “COVID-19 vaccine” in your browser and go to the “Where to get it” tab on your phone or desktop. When I hear something’s been hacked, it conjures images of Le Carré-style spies and national security leaks, but this isn’t always the case. Sometimes, it’s just a brain genius hacking an Apple AirTag. Over the weekend, Twitter user Stacksmashing managed to break into Apple’s tracking device. OnePlus‘ experimental software team OneLab has released a new app called Clipt that lets you sends files, links, and images between your devices. The tool is currently available as an Android app and a browser extension with an iOS app in the works. Clipt’s idea is simple: it acts as a universal clipboard between your devices using Google Drive. Windows 10X, Microsoft‘s Chrome OS competitor that was announced in 2019 alongside the Surface Neo, has apparently been shelved, according to a report from Petri. While it’s not clear if Microsoft has completely abandoned the project, it’s not arriving this year and the “company has shifted resources to Windows 10 and 10X is on the back burner,” according to Petri’s sources. It was just a few days ago that Clubhouse, the audio-first social network, announced it was testing an Android version of its rapidly-growing app with a small number of users in a closed beta. It turns out we didn’t have to wait long for a wider rollout: a beta version of the app is now rolling out widely right in the Google Play Store, although it’s currently limited to users in the US.
