Bernie Sanders-supporting congresswoman meets with Donald Trump

President-elect Donald Trump had his first meeting with a congressional Democrat on Monday morning when he sat down with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) at Trump Tower. Gabbard, who was an ardent supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Democratic presidential primary and has been an outspoken critic of President Obama's policy in Syria, said they talked about foreign policy. "President-elect Trump asked me to meet with him about our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS... Читать дальше...

Did Trump ask Argentina's president for a business favor during their post-election call?

Update 1:50 p.m.: A spokesman for Argentine President Mauricio Macri denied that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump asked for a business favor during a post-election call. "Trump and President Macri only spoke about maintaining the institutional relationship between the two countries," the spokesman told BuzzFeed News. "They then recalled their personal relationship. They never spoke of the tower." A Trump spokesman also denied the story. Our original post is below.

George W. Bush's former chief of staff is worried about Reince Priebus

White House chief of staff is already considered one of "the most grueling jobs in Washington," The New York Times Mark Leibovich writes, with most lasting no more than two years in the job. But Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, who President-elect Donald Trump recently tapped for the position, might have an especially tough couple years ahead of him.

The last time a losing presidential candidate led by this much was in 1876

Hillary Clinton now leads President-elect Donald Trump by more than 1.72 million popular votes. That gives Clinton a 1.3 percentage point lead, with millions of votes still to be counted. While it's certainly not unprecedented for a candidate to win the popular vote but lose the election, The New York Times reports that a losing candidate hasn't claimed a lead this big since the 1876 presidential race between Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and Democrat Samuel J. Tilden.

Morning Joe's Joe Scarborough suggests Trump should call Giuliani 'Crooked Rudy'

After repeatedly criticizing Hillary Clinton throughout the presidential election for her track record of giving paid speeches, President-elect Donald Trump is now considering a man for his Cabinet who made $16 million in one year alone off of paid speeches and consulting work. Morning Joe co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were quick to point out the irony on Monday's show, citing The New York Times' report that former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani delivered 108 speeches in 11 countries in 2006. Westworld recap: Timelines, death, and the maze

Would it be better to know that a loved one died for a reason? Or would it be less painful to know that there was no reason at all? Do we want to believe that the universe makes meaning out of our pain, and that death comes because someone says so, and wanted it so? Or would it be easier to know that meaning is just the name we give to chaos, disorder, and fragmentation? That nothing means anything, and that the world — as Hector Escaton once observed — "is just as doomed as ever"?

Trump now has a favorable standing among 46 percent of registered voters, up from 37 percent right before the election. Meanwhile, the percentage of registered voters with an unfavorable opinion of Trump has dropped 15 points, from 61 percent to 46 percent. Donald Trump is the first president-elect in 28 years to be graded lower than the candidate he beat

"For most voters, the 2016 presidential campaign was one to forget," the Pew Research Center says in presenting quadrennial post-election survey results. There is some decent news for President-elect Donald Trump: Half the 1,254 voters surveyed Nov. 10-14 say they are happy he won the presidential election, while 48 percent are unhappy, and 56 percent say they expect him to have a successful first term (including 97 percent of his supporters; 76 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters say Trump will be unsuccessful). Pope gives Catholic priests the power to forgive abortion

Catholic priests can now forgive the "grave sin" of abortion, Pope Francis announced Monday in a letter. "I wish to restate as firmly as I can that abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life. In the same way, however, I can and must state that there is no sin that God's mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with the Father," Francis wrote in a document called an "apostolic letter."

A day after meeting with Mattis, Trump tweeted: "General James 'Mad Dog' Mattis, who is being considered for Secretary of Defense, was very impressive yesterday." Ex-French President Sarkozy knocked out of presidential race in conservative primary

On Nov. 27, two former French prime ministers, Fracois Fillon and Alain Juppé, will square off in a runoff election to determine which one of them represents the center-right Republican party in the next presidential election, after both beat former President Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday's Republican primary election. Fillon, a hard-line conservative who promises to cut 500,000 public sector jobs and end the 35-hour workweek, did better than expected, winning 44 percent of the vote to Juppé's 29 percent and Sarkozy's 21 percent. What will Donald Trump's presidency be like? Here are 5 scenarios.

1. The Northeastern moderate

Before he discovered birtherism, Trump gave every indication that he was a finger-wetting, wind-direction-checking, big-city Northeastern moderate. In 1999, he described himself as "very pro-choice." As recently as December 2012, he had urged the Republican Party, still licking its wounds over the re-election of President Obama, to get ahead of the immigration issue and win over Hispanic voters with comprehensive reform. Even during the 2016 GOP primaries, he... Читать дальше...

And a month before that, WikiLeaks released the Iraq War Logs: 391,832 field reports documenting, among other things, the deaths of 66,081 Iraqi civilians.

Was Chris Christie ousted from the Trump administration because he was a camera hog?

The demotion of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie from short-lister for Donald Trump's running mate to long shot for any significant role in the Trump administration is one of the enduring mysteries of the Trump transition. Allies of Christie and Trump both insist that Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law whose father was sent to jail by Christie, is not behind Christie's fall from grace, but they don't agree on the reason he was largely frozen out of the Trump presidential transition, Hunter Walker says at Yahoo News.
