The ocean is getting warmer, and fast. The BBC reports that "a recent, rapid heating of the world's oceans" has raised alarms among scientists who worry the sudden trend is a sign that climate change is accelerating. That could have devastating consequences: Fish and other marine life could die off, more extreme weather events could be on the way, and the oceans — already rising — will encroach on coastal areas. 

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. took over the troubled San Francisco-based First Republic Bank early Monday and sold "substantially all" of its assets to JPMorgan Chase, the FDIC said in a statement. First Republic's 84 branches in eight states will open Monday morning as JPMorgan branches, and customers will have full access to their deposits. George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School has made a deliberate effort to hire conservative justices as teachers — and "strategic assets" it its campaign to make Scalia Law "a Yale or Harvard of conservative legal scholarship and influence," The New York Times reports, citing internal records it obtained through freedom of information requests and other documents.
