Ten states and several Louisiana municipalities filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration on Thursday to block rate increases in the National Flood Insurance Program that are set to be implemented in the coming years. The suit argues that the higher premiums could force some people out of their homes and businesses. 

For years now, federal student loan payments have been on pause. That hiatus is about to come to an end. The payment pause began in March 2020, as part of the relief offered during the Covid-19 pandemic, and was repeatedly extended, allowing borrowers to keep money in their pockets instead of putting it toward student loan payments.

Over the past few years, social equity has become a critical priority for the cannabis industry. Actress Kim Cattrall will make a shock return to the "Sex and the City" universe with a cameo as Samantha Jones in the sequel series "And Just Like That…" despite her absence from the reboot's first season. Cattrall's homecoming seemed unlikely due to some off-screen drama, specifically a rift between her and her former co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. 

Joran van der Sloot, the suspect in Natalee Holloway's death, will be extradited to the United States on charges related to her disappearance. His extradition comes nearly 18 years after Holloway vanished on the island of Aruba and more than a decade after she was declared legally dead. 

The ongoing federal investigation into former President Donald Trump's alleged retention and mishandling of classified documents after leaving office took on a new air of urgency this week. An exclusive CNN report claimed Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith possessed incriminating audio of Trump seemingly undercutting one of his primary justifications for possessing the documents in question. The Senate voted 63-36 late Thursday to suspend the debt ceiling for two years and reduce government spending, sending the bill to President Biden's desk and averting a default on U.S. financial obligations that loomed as early as Monday. The bill, negotiated by Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), passed the House on Wednesday night with broad bipartisan support. In the Senate, four Democrats, 31 Republicans, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) voted no.
