Jeb Bush tells donors he's 'really sorry'

Jeb Bush is doing...okay. It had been iffy there for a while — his campaign tailspin ended in a brutal resignation to the fact that he would not be president, or even the Republican nominee. But since getting back to Miami, things have been looking a little brighter. In a call to donors on Wednesday, a "tired-sounding" Bush reported he'd been to the gym and was "sleeping really well," The New York Times writes.

Still, in true Jeb! fashion the conversation also took a turn for the awkward and depressing. "I'm really sorry that it didn't turn out the way that I intended," Bush told his donors, going on to explain he too had "anticipated a different result."

Then Bush apologized again. "It was an amazing group of people. I'm sorry it didn't work out as I said," he said.

Bush pinned his defeat on "a year of disruption, a year of outsiders making a compelling case to people who were deeply disaffected and angry." "I just didn't get the breakthrough that I needed in the early states and felt it was important to not move on without a clear path to winning," Bush said.
