Both officers have been hospitalized. One is reportedly being treated for serious injuries to the face and the other suffered a less dangerous wound. Police quickly erected a perimeter around the attack site and asked citizens to stay indoors.
"I condemn strongly the attack in Charleroi," said Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel in a tweeted statement Saturday afternoon. "My thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and police officers."
