BETFAIR has released a feature film depicting the life and times of Aintree hero Tiger Roll.
The documentary is called ‘The Horse Of A Lifetime’ and honours the legendary Irish icon all the way from Triumph Hurdle success to his second Grand National victory last year.
Trainer Gordon Elliott, jockey Davy Russell and Gigginstown supremo Eddie O’Leary are just some of the characters interviewed about the rise and rise of one of the world’s most popular horses.
Eddie’s brother Michael also features in the film, a man who once called his pride and joy ‘a little rat of a thing, but with the heart of a lion.’
Elliott, who’s been the man responsible for Tiger Roll notching up £1,379,992 in prize-money, said: “He is the people’s horse and this documentary gives viewers a great understanding of the path he has taken us on, in what, it’s fair to say, hasn’t always been a smooth path.
“We were close to selling him but luck or faith meant we didn’t thank God and while it’s disappointing to miss this year’s Grand National, as he is in flying form at home, there are currently more important things going on in the world – so it’s all systems go for the 2021 Grand National.
“That’s something to look forward to.”
Alongside Tiger Roll’s Aintree victories, a portion of the documentary focuses on his magnificent record at the Cheltenham Festival, a meeting that’s seen him land a Triumph Hurdle, a National Hunt Chase and two Cross Country Chases.
Robyn Ree, Co-Producer of the Documentary commented: “Working on the Tiger Roll documentary has been a roller coaster ride.
“In an industry as fast paced as horse racing, the story of Tiger Roll was and continues to constantly evolve.
“Filmed over a six-month period, we followed a number of people who can claim credit for Tiger Roll’s success throughout the years.
“Betfair’s access to these world-class individuals provided us with the unique opportunity to tell the full story of the Horse of a Lifetime.”
