Sandeshkhali case: SC raises eyebrows on West Bengal challenging CBI investigation
The Supreme Court questioned the West Bengal government's opposition to a CBI probe into the Sandeshkhali case, involving land grabbing and sexual assault. The court asked why the state was appealing against a CBI probe that aimed to protect the interests of a private individual. Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh, a prime accused in the case, is being investigated by the CBI and ED. The court adjourned the case until after the Lok Sabha elections, with the West Bengal government assuring that the plea's pendency would not be cited in cases before the Calcutta High Court.
