This program was prepared jointly by the embassies of Germany and
Switzerland, as well as the Austrian consulate, Germany's Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Matthias Kiesler told a
press conference on September 27.
As the ambassador noted, this event is held for the second year in a
row. In one week, it is planned to hold 19 events, which will begin
on September 29 with the opening of the exhibition. The events end on
the 6th of September with the final concert "Piano Battle meets
orchestra", which will be held in the Grand Concert Hall of the
Philharmonic named after Aram Khachaturian.
Kisler noted that, despite the fact that the German language is
inferior to English in terms of prevalence, it is an international
language. German is the state language in Germany itself, Austria,
Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, the diplomat noted. In
Armenia, he said, 30,000 people are fluent in German.
Presenting the program of events, Ambassador Kiesler noted that it
will be very interesting and rich. Within the German Language Week,
there will be exhibitions, concerts, seminars, film screenings.
In his turn, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Armenia Lucas Gasser
noted that in a number of events organized by the Swiss Embassy, the
main emphasis will be placed on acquainting the Armenian public with
the German-language literature. The ambassador expressed hope that
the event will be held with success and will become an annual event.
