UN refugee agency has voiced concerns over new Hungarian rules leading to push-backs of asylum seekers and urged authorities to investigate reports of violence.

At the request of France, EU foreign affairs ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday will discuss the fight against terrorism. French president Francois Hollande said Friday afternoon that 50 people were "between life and death" after Thursday's lorry attack in Nice that killed 84 people and injured about 120. Visiting a hospital in the city, he said that "many foreigners and many children" were among the injured people who are considered to be in "absolute emergency".

British eurosceptic Nigel Farage said on British TV the attack happened because "1.8m people came into the EU without one of them being security-checked".

A government spokesman in Saudi Arabia on Friday condemned the "ignoble terrorist" attack in Nice, France. The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, Zayed Al-Nahyane, also "denounced" the "ignoble crime". He promised "full solidarity and support" for France. No group has yet claimed the attack. Saudi Arabia has faced criticism for financing radical Islamist preachers at home and abroad.

Belgian PM Charles Michel said Friday he would introduce supplementary security measures following the attack in Nice, France, while maintaining a level three alert in the country, the second highest. London mayor Sadiq Khan speaking at the city's Gatwick airport, said he was in talks with British police to augment counter-terrorism measures in the British capital.

European Parliament president Martin Schulz on Thursday criticised British PM Theresa May's appointment of Brexit supporters like Boris Johnson to top government posts. He said the appointments were motivated by internal Tory party politics rather than UK interests. Schulz said the same problem had caused Brexit in the first place, adding: "The United Kingdom has to break this dangerously vicious cycle which has direct impact on the rest of Europe".

MEP Ryszard Czarnecki, from Poland's ruling PiS party, has told Radio TOK FM that Poland would endorse European Council Donald Tusk for a second term in 2017 only if he stopped supporting a European Commission proposal to fine countries that refuse to relocate refugees. Czarnecki said either Tusk or commission president Jean-Claude Juncker would be replaced by a socialist when Martin Schulz steps down as European Parliament president next year.
