EU ambassadors have agreed a draft EU budget for 2017 proposed by the Slovak presidency with €156.38 billion in commitments - a 0.9 percent increase from this year - and €133.79 billion in payments - a 7.0 percent decrease. Reduction of payments is due to the end of previous programmes while new programmes are not all fully implemented. Ministers will adopt the budget in September.
