Space heater causes Lafayette house fire Wednesday night
Fire officials determined the fire was accidental.
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- A space heater that ignited some bed material in a home led to a Lafayette fire Wednesday night, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
Around 10:07 p.m., firefighters were sent to a home in the 200 block of West End Avenue. Fire officials found fire going through the roof of the residence when they arrived. The home was significantly damaged after firefighters spent almost 20 minutes taming the fire.
Fire officials said a space heater placed too close to the bed caused the fire. Three adults were living in the home at the time. One of the residents, a woman, was sleeping in the bedroom where the fire started, and once another male resident noticed the smoke coming from the room, he alerted her, and they all safely left the home with no injuries.
Fire officials determined the fire was accidental.
