Road closures for residents in St. Landry Parish fluctuated throughout Wednesday
The road has been passable with caution, but when it rains there is a rise in water and that can make the road impassable.
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY)-- The Parish President Jessie Bellard reminds people the drainage projects that were performed will help with the water receding faster than usual.
"We changed a lot of pipes in that area," Bellard said. "The pipe that was there was not really sized correctly. That was changed out and hopefully it continues to help push that water out as fast as it can."
The road closures posted for St. Landry Parish can be a bit overwhelming. It’s one thing to see the list of closures or roads that are impassable, it’s another experience to actually drive on one of these roads.
"I guess this truck right here detoured off of Highway 190, and he went and saw the water down the road. He tried to back up straight, but he ran off the road,” Parish Councilman Dexter Brown said.
Wisdom Road is on the outskirts of Opelousas. The road sits in the area of Brown’s council district.

Bellards told News 10 he's in Washington D.C. to meet with lawmakers on the issue of drainage. Councilman Dexter Brown is the parish councilman for the Wisdom Road area.
"When you have a flash flood mother nature said it’s time to come down. We have to just let nature take it’s course and let the water just drain off,” Brown said.
