Metals processing company Inca One Gold Corporation expects its production will increase over the remainder of this year as its mining partners increase ore deliveries. The company pointed out in a release issued on Wednesday that an extended rainy season in the South American country, which had delayed deliveries from its mining partners and negatively impacted on Inca One's output in recent months, had come to an end.

Workers at Nutrien’s Cory potash mine in Saskatchewan have been stuck underground since Tuesday afternoon, but are safe. The 34 maintenance workers became trapped underground after the service shaft stopped operating, Will Tigley, a company spokesperson, said by email.

The Wits Mining Institute (WMI) will hold a three-day seminar, from August 6 to 8, titled ‘Empowering Leaders for 21st Century Mining’, which will cover important topics relevant to leadership in mining, specifically for women. CSA Global provides technical and management consulting services, as well as independent corporate advice to mining and exploration companies and financial and legal groups worldwide.

JSE-listed minerals and construction materials group Afrimat has decided not to pursue an acquisition of ASX-listed midtier coal mining company Universal Coal. In April, Afrimat made a nonbinding indicative offer to buy the entire issued share capital of Universal Coal for $0.27, or A$0.40 apiece, as part of a diversification strategy.

Germany’s KfW Group is pulling out of loans for new coal projects, joining other European development banks that have already followed orders of their governments to minimise exposure to the world’s most widely used power-station fuel. KfW will no longer finance the exploration or mining of coal or lend to coal power plant projects, the lender said Monday as it updated its investment code from four years ago. The firm hasn’t made any new investments in coal projects since then and holds less than €2-billion in outstanding loans in the fuel.

TSX-listed Santacruz Silver has, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Carrizal Holdings, acquired a 50% shareholding in PCG Mining, which is a holding company that owns 100% of private Mexican mining company Carrizal Mining. The shares were bought from one of PCG’s shareholders for $500 000 in cash; the forgiveness of about $264 000 in debt owed by the vendor to Carrizal Mining; the transfer of a $494 000 life-insurance policy and three vehicles valued at $180 000 from Carrizal Mining to the vendor.

TSX-V-listed Tinka Resources has garnered positive results from a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) for its 100%-owned Ayawilca Zinc Zone project in central Peru. The PEA estimates an after-tax net present value (NPV) of $363-million and a pre-tax NPV of $609-million using metal prices of $1.20/lb of zinc, $18/oz of silver and $0.95/lb of lead on a 100% equity basis.

Aluminum producer Alcoa Corp said on Tuesday it expects to incur a charge of between $40-million and $50-million in the second half of 2019, related to restarting operations at its Canadian smelter in Becancour, Quebec. An 18-month lock out between the company and workers at the Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc smelter ended on Tuesday as about 80% of the workers voted to ratify the latest contract, according to the United Steelworkers union.

Canadian mining company Equinox Gold has achieved commercial production at its Aurizona gold mine, in Brazil. During the month of June, the Aurizona processing plant operated at an average throughput of about 90% of its nameplate capacity of 8 200 t/d, exceeded 90% average recovery and produced more than 7 000 oz of gold.

As India readies for the United Nations to give a green light to deep sea mining and boost its economy, the environmental group Greenpeace said on Wednesday that drilling the seabed could cause irreversible harm and worsen climate change. Without proper governance of the seas, mining could remove entire habitats and species, release toxins and create pollution in areas that have been undisturbed for millennia, it said.

TSX-listed Lydian International has entered into a second amended and restated (A&R) forbearance agreement with its senior lenders, stream financing providers and equipment financiers. Coal miner Stanmore Coal on Wednesday announced that it would defer the development of its Isaac Plains underground project, in Queensland. The miner told shareholders that while a bankable feasibility study on the underground operation had confirmed a positive business case for a 1.2-million tonne a year operation, the quantum of product tonnes forecast from the underground operation, combined with the opencut sources exceeded the current coal handling and processing plant (CHPP) and contracted port capacity.

A Brazilian Senate committee is expected to recommend that 12 current and former executives of Vale , including CFO Luciano Siani and former CEO Fabio Schvartsman, face criminal indictments for a fatal dam disaster in January. The rapporteur of the committee proposed the indictments Tuesday after a two-and-a-half-month congressional inquiry into the causes of the dam break that left at least 246 people dead and unleashed a sea of mud over the city of Brumadinho, where Vale had an inactive iron ore mine. An 18-month labour dispute at an aluminum smelter in Quebec controlled by Alcoa Corporation ended after workers accepted a deal, defying the recommendation of their union’s leadership. On Tuesday, about 80% of workers at the Becancour plant voted to ratify the offer after a meeting of the United Steelworkers in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, the union said. Alcoa last week said it expects the smelter, which has been operated by managers at a fraction of its capacity, to be fully operational within ten months if the offer was accepted.

The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday moved to ensure it has a role negotiating the terms of any permit for the massive Pebble Mine planned near Alaska’s Bristol Bay, a move that may bolster the permit’s chances of approval.
