ASX- and JSE-listed coal miner Resource Generation (Resgen) on September 10 said its lenders' project team will not approach their credit committees until three conditions precedent are met. Canada-based junior Group Eleven has started drilling at the Stonepark zinc project, in the Limerick basin of Ireland. Stonepark is a joint venture between Group Eleven and Irish explorer Arkle Resources, which trades in London. The drill programme at Stonepark will consist of two step-out holes, totalling about 810 m (360 m and 450 m, respectively).

Russia produced 176.3 t of gold from January to July, down from 185.1 tonnes during the same period last year, the finance ministry said on Thursday. Gold output in Russia, the world's third largest producer of the precious metal, has been rising steadily over the past decade as companies invest in new mines and expand existing ones amid strong prices. Mining production decreased by 9.1% year-on-year in July, with the largest negative contributors being other nonmetallic minerals and chromium ore sector. Other non-metallic minerals contributed -2.8 percentage points to the decline with an overall decrease of 44.9% in output, while chromium ore decreased by 32.5% and contributed -1.4 percentage points.

Diversified major Rio Tinto will seek to raise up to $500-million in additional lending under existing project financing for the Oyu Tolgoi underground project, in Mongolia. The company owns Oyu Tolgoi through its majority ownership in Toronto-listed Turquoise Hill, which has a 66% interest in the Oyu Tolgoi copper/gold mine. Diversified major BHP has set medium-term targets for reducing greenhouse emissions, announcing on Thursday that it would reduce emissions by at least 30% from adjusted 2020 levels by the end of this decade. The group has already established its long-term goal of achieving net zero operational (Scope 1 and 2) emissions by 2050 and its short-term target of maintaining operational emissions at, or blow, 2017 levels by 2022, using carbon offsets. TSX-V-listed diamond miner Diamcor Mining, with operations in South Africa, reports that owing to ongoing delays in South Africa it will be unable to file its audited financial statements and corresponding management’s discussion and analysis for the financial year ended March 31. The company’s Krone-Endora at Venetia mine is in South Africa, which has undergone some of the strictest lockdowns globally and which has affected many non-essential mining operations in the country.

Aim-listed diamond miner BlueRock Diamonds has recovered a 9.7 ct diamond with an initial independent valuation estimate of $75 000. This marks the second high-value stone recovered at Kareevlei diamond mine, in Kimberley – BlueRock’s flagship operation − this quarter.

ASX-listed Minbos Resources will raise A$2.2-million in a two tranche share placement, having received commitments from sophisticated investors. Minbos will issue 848-million new shares, at a price of 0.15c each, in the fist tranche under its existing placement capacity. A further 662-million shares will be issued in the second tranche, subject to shareholder approval.

Canada’s Canpotex, a joint venture between Mosaic and Nutrien, said on Wednesday that it was fully committed on volumes for potash sales for shipment through to December 31. The company said there was continued strong demand for potash in key offshore markets, supported by solid fundamentals for agricultural commodities in numerous growing regions.

Aim- and ASX-listed Thor Mining has completed the acquisition of privately held American Vanadium, which holds interests in uranium and vanadium projects in Colorado and Utah. Thor in June this year announced an option agreement to acquire American Vanadium consideration comprises an exclusivity fee of A$100 100, of which A$50 100 will be satisfied by the issue of just over 8.3-million ordinary shares in Thor Mining.

Metals miner Hudbay Minerals has priced an upsized offering of $600-million aggregate principal amount of 6.125% senior notes due 2029. The size of the offering was increased from the previously announced $500-million aggregate principal amount. The new notes, expected to close on September 23, will be issued at 100% of their principal amount, providing the company with gross proceeds of $600-million.

Having started its diversification strategy by venturing into platinum-group metals (PGMs) in 2016, Sibanye-Stillwater CEO Neal Froneman says the company is now considering diversifying into battery metals. In response to a question posed during the PGMs Industry Day on September 9, he stated, “we’re not trying to emulate a Rio Tinto or BHP, they are very broadly diversified, and they have their own strategies. I think initially for us there has to be links to the commodities that we are diversifying into”.

Short-seller JCAP has a new exploration and development company in its sights – Toronto-listed Northern Dynasty, which is seeking to build the contentious Pebble copper/gold project in Alaska. A group of 15 Democrat-led states sued to block the Trump administration’s decision to sell drilling rights in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, alleging the plan fails to account for the danger to wildlife and climate-change impacts. ASX-listed Consolidated Zinc has secured offtake agreements for 100% of the zinc concentrate production expected from its Plomosas mine, in Mexico, for 2021. The company on Thursday reported that its subsidiary Minera Latin American Zinc had executed an extension of the zinc concentrate offtake agreement with Latin American mining company Industrias Penoles, providing certainty for all of the zinc concentrate produced at the Plamosas mine in 2021.

Lithium developer Core Lithium has flagged the potential sale of its non-core silver assets in the Northern Territory. The company on Thursday said that it had received a number of expressions of interest for its Blueys Silver project, where drilling had previously intercepted grades of up to 1 000 g/t silver and 17% zinc and lead.

ASX-listed Superior Lake Resources on Thursday unveiled plans to vend its interest in its namesake zinc project, in Ontario, into a TSX-V listed company called CROPS Inc. The company told shareholders that since completing a bankable feasibility study (BFS) in 2019, Superior Lake had received several non-binding indicative debt proposals of up to $70-million for project finance, as well as expressions of interest from major global metal traders and smelters.
