Man Utd have sounded out €40m star over transfer but he wants to join Barcelona - report
Manchester United have sounded out Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves over a summer move despite his desire to join Barcelona.
The Portuguese has been a key player in the centre of the park for the Midlands outfit but he is likely to move on with his contract expiring in June next year.
United have been one of his long-term admirers and Sport claim that they have already made an initial approach to bring the former Porto star to Old Trafford.
However, the 26-year-old believes his cycle in England is over after Wolves and is desperate to make a switch to the Blaugrana ahead of next season.
United should look at better options than Neves
Neves has been instrumental for Wolves in their impressive run of form in recent months. He has excelled with his tackling and ability to win regular duels.
The €40 million-rated star has also chipped in with six goals and one assist this campaign but he is largely a defensive midfielder by trade.
In our view, the Red Devils need to focus on the creative department and they should bring in a midfielder, who is more versatile.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister seems perfect for the role, although it seems Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign him now.
Neves would be a good acquisition for top Premier League sides but United have previously had concerns over his top speed and mobility.
Meanwhile, it does not make sense to go after a player who is holding out for a move to Camp Nou.
