‘Not normal’: Toby Collyer names two Man United superstars who stunned him in training
Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer has opened up on the two players who have impressed him the most at Old Trafford.
Collyer is currently gaining valuable first-team experience on loan at Hull City as the Tigers push for promotion back to the Premier League.
The young midfielder recently suffered a freak training injury that will rule him out of the upcoming Championship play-off semi-final.
However, the 22-year-old remains hopeful of recovering in time for the final should Hull progress.
Renowned journalist Andy Mitten recently sat down with Collyer to discuss his experiences in training alongside United’s biggest stars.
The 22-year-old has already played 13 times for the United first team in his young career.
Collyer lavished praise on Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro for their enormous impact.
Special Bruno Fernandes
The midfielder said (via The Athletic): “In terms of ability, Bruno (Fernandes). Some of the stuff he does in training would have me thinking, ‘That’s not normal, I don’t understand it’.
“Obviously, he’s clever, but he does turns where he just finds a pass out of nowhere. It’s incredible.”
Almost every United player who speaks publicly about Fernandes highlights the incredible standards he sets in both training and matches.
This shows that Fernandes is not only the best player at the club but also a leader of the group.
Despite receiving constant criticism throughout much of his United career, the Portuguese star has consistently responded with elite performances on the pitch.
Fernandes has already registered 19 Premier League assists this season and now sits on the verge of making history.
He needs just two more assists to become the outright record-holder for most assists in a single Premier League campaign.
Casemiro – Elite mentality warrior
The second player singled out by Collyer was Casemiro.
The Brazilian has enjoyed a remarkable 2025-26 campaign and has firmly re-established himself as a fan favourite at Old Trafford.
Like Fernandes, Casemiro has also had to deal with heavy criticism from pundits and sections of the media.
Former manager Ruben Amorim picked Collyer ahead of Casemiro earlier in the season, but the five-time UEFA Champions League winner responded with professionalism and determination to reclaim his place.
Collyer said: “Casemiro was a big role model too, a player I looked up to. These past four years, being around him, just watching him and seeing the little things he does.
“First into training, ultra professional. He’s always observing. People say he’s a warrior off the ball because he reads the game so well, but on the ball he’s exceptional as well with that one-touch around-the-corner pass. He leads by example.”
Casemiro will now leave the club after his contract expires at the end of June.
His four-year spell at United may be nearing its conclusion, but his leadership and winning mentality will leave a lasting mark inside the dressing room.
