Greek authorities say smugglers ferrying migrants from Turkey to Greece’s eastern islands have in two cases adopted the new and dangerous tactic of knocking some passengers off their speedboats into the sea to avoid capture by pursuing coast guards. All eight migrants were rescued in both cases, which occurred over the weekend. The incidents come as smugglers using speedboats, instead of the flimsy inflatable dinghies with small engines they favored for years, adopt increasingly aggressive tactics to dodge coast guard patrols. A federal appeals court has ruled that a Florida law banning gender-affirming care can be enforced while a legal challenge plays out. The decision handed down on Monday cleared the way for Florida to prohibit transgender minors from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments, even with their parents’ permission. The law also requires that transgender adults only receive treatment from a doctor and not from a registered nurse or other qualified provider.

Authorities say an 80-year-old man has died after falling from a boat on the Colorado River inside Grand Canyon National Park. It’s believed to be the fifth reported fatality at the canyon in less than a month and the 13th this year. Park officials say the incident occurred Sunday afternoon near Fossil Rapid. They say the man was on a commercial river trip when his boat flipped. Authorities say all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A former southern Indiana sheriff has pleaded guilty to more than two dozen charges alleging that he spent millions of dollars in local funds on travel, gifts, automobiles and other personal expenses. Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel pleaded guilty Monday to 27 charges, including theft, tax evasion and money laundering. A jury in Las Vegas has resumed deliberations in the trial of a former Democratic politician accused of killing an investigative reporter two years ago. The panel returns Tuesday morning after working Monday for about four hours. Prosecutors say Robert Telles blamed reporter Jeff German for writing stories that he believed destroyed his career, ruined his reputation and threatened his marriage. The Wisconsin Elections Commission has voted to keep independent presidential candidate Cornel West on the ballot, rejecting a challenge filed by an employee of the Democratic National Committee. The commission on Tuesday ousted one presidential candidate — independent Shiva Ayyadurai — an anti-vaccine activist who was born in India to parents who weren’t United States citizens. Authorities are investigating the killing of a Colorado dog breeder and trying to find as many as 10 Doberman puppies missing from his business. Officials haven't determined a motive for last week’s homicide of 57-year-old Paul Peavey. But the Clear Creek Sheriff's Office said Monday that finding the missing puppies could help solve the case. One person has died in a crash on Interstate 40 in Arkansas that backed up traffic for hours on the busy highway. The Arkansas Department of Transportation says the crash involving two tractor-trailers and a truck occurred Monday afternoon near Brinkley shortly after a grass fire in the area. One of the vehicles contained military devices that were potentially explosive, so the area around the crash was evacuated as they were removed. Immigration attorneys say families are in limbo after a federal judge in Texas paused a Biden administration program that would provide immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens a pathway to citizenship. The order Monday night by a federal judge in Texas followed a challenge by 16 states and is led by Republican attorneys general. The program could benefit an estimated 500,000 immigrants in the country, plus about 50,000 of their children. The pause on the program will be in place for 14 days but could be extended.
