Trump Leaves Top Strategist's Future in Limbo: 'We'll See'

President Donald Trump is saying "we'll see what happens" with top strategist Steve Bannon.   The president refused to express confidence in Bannon during an impromptu news conference Tuesday.   "He's a good person. He actually gets very unfair press in that regard," Trump said. "But we'll see what happens with Mr. Bannon."   Bannon was a key general election campaign adviser and has been a forceful but contentious presence in a divided White House. The former leader of conservative Breitbart... Читать дальше...

"Stonewall'' Jackson'' from its pedestal around 3 a.m. and placed it on a flatbed truck 45 minutes later.   Photos taken by The Baltimore Sun shows workers taking away a monument dedicated to the Confederate Women of Maryland. Egypt Archaeologists Discover Tombs Dating Back 2,000 Years

Egypt's antiquities ministry says that archaeologists have discovered three tombs dating back more than 2,000 years, from the Ptolemaic Period. The discovery was made in the Nile Valley province of Minya south of Cairo, in an area known as al-Kamin al-Sahrawi. Tuesday's statement by the ministry says the unearthed sarcophagi and clay fragments suggest that the area was a large necropolis from sometime between the 27th Dynasty and the Greco-Roman period. One of the tombs has a burial shaft carved... Читать дальше...

Daniel Craig Announces Return as James Bond

Daniel Craig will return for a fifth go-around as James Bond.   The actor confirmed reports he would reprise his role as the suave British spy for "Bond 25" during an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Tuesday night.   The announcement is a reversal for Craig, who told Time Out London in 2015 he'd rather slash his wrists than do another Bond film.   Craig chalks up that comment as "a stupid answer" and tells Colbert he "couldn't be happier" to return to the role.   Craig... Defector: UN Sanctions Would Play Havoc With North Korean Economy

The impact of the latest round of U.N. sanctions leveled against North Korea could be greater than the projected $1 billion cut in its export revenue if fully implemented, a high-profile North Korean defector told VOA’s Korean Service, and this would deal a significant financial blow to a regime intent on advancing its nuclear and missile programs. “The new U.N. restrictions are perhaps the strongest sanctions ever imposed on Pyongyang because they demand a complete shutoff of markets for its most lucrative exports,” said Ri Jong Ho... US, Mexico and Canada Launching NAFTA Renegotiation Talks

The United States, Mexico and Canada are opening negotiations Wednesday to reform the North American Free Trade Agreement, a 1994 trade deal that was a major target in U.S. President Donald Trump’s run for office. Trump has called NAFTA “the worst trade deal in history,” and one that has unfairly swollen the U.S. trade deficit with Mexico while allowing manufacturing jobs to migrate there. Addressing the imbalance is a key U.S. goal in the talks, along with seeking to do away with a dispute... Читать дальше...

After Years of Decline, Teen Overdose Deaths Rise

After years of decline, teen deaths from drug overdoses have inched up, a new U.S. government report shows. The drop in teen deaths had been a rare bright spot in the opioid epidemic that has seen adult overdose deaths surge year after year, fueled by abuse of prescription painkillers, heroin and newer drugs like fentanyl. “This is a warning sign that we need to keep paying attention to what’s happening with young people,” said Katherine Keyes, a Columbia University expert on drug abuse issues who wasn’t part of the study.
