TOTTENHAM have launched a bid for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to French reports.
The 20-year-old starlet was in the middle of a transfer tug-of-war between Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.
But according to L’Equipe, Tottenham have swooped in and made the first move by launching an official bid for the Frenchman.
Jose Mourinho’s assistant coach Joao Sacramento previously working with Soumare when he was a coach at Lille.
Both Chelsea and United were said to have been in negotiations with Lille for the midfielder.
But Arsenal dropped out of the race and LaLiga sides Real Madrid and Valencia followed suit.
Soumare, who played against Chelsea in the Blues 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League knockout stages, is a box-to-box player.
His key attributes include defensive principles such as ball recovery, winning possession and general distribution.
The Frenchman, who came through the youth system at PSG before moving to Lille in 2017, and has been a target for United after injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Soumare’s composure and ball control will help shore up the middle of the park for Solskjaer’s side.
Whilst his 87% pass competition rate could help unlock the creativity and pace the United forward’s should be showing.
However, his ability to dominate a game with poise and power from a very young age may position him well for a youthful Chelsea side.
