Former Man Utd star, 34, wakes up unemployed after he is released from League One club
EX-MANCHESTER United keeper Ben Amos is looking for his ELEVENTH club since exiting Old Trafford.
The former England Under-21 star, 34, is one of five players released by mid-table League One side Wigan.
Ben Amos is on the move after his Wigan deal ended[/caption]Amos once admitted life at Old Trafford was like living in a bubble.
But after six loan spells and finally leaving United permanently in 2015, his career has hit a bobble.
Amos played only seven games for United, all under legendary boss Alex Ferguson.
His only Premier League match was a 2-0 home win over Stoke in January 2012 – when he had just one save to make.
A Champions League clash and five League Cup ties completed his haul of appearances for the Red Devils.
But Fergie’s first two successors, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, never game him a senior chance.
And Amos joined his sixth loan club, Bolton, in a permanent deal in 2015.
Peterborough, Norwegian side Molde, Oldham, Hull, Carlisle had been his other temporary ports of call.
Back in 2014, Amos was pictured in a star-packed United squad shot on the left of the three keepers, next to David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard[/caption]BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS
And while at Bolton, he had three more loan stints – for Cardiff, Charlton and Millwall.
The Addicks handed Amos a two-year contract in 2019.
Amos has drifted around since leaving Old Trafford in 2015[/caption]And when he switched to Wigan two years later, he penned the same arrangement.
Now, having stayed an extra 12 months, the former starlet is one of hundreds of lower-league players out of work this summer.
Perhaps it would be helpful for him to recall his positive outlook when departing Old Trafford – as exclusively told to The Sun in November 2020.
He said then: “The big thing I’ve learned since leaving is there’s a world outside Man United.
“It’s not necessarily better or worse. Places are just run differently. It’s part and parcel of growing up.”
