TSX-listed Guyana Goldfields will hold a special meeting of shareholders on May 22, alongside its yearly general meeting, to discuss matters related to its former chairperson Patrick Sheridan. A meeting was requisitioned by a group of dissident shareholders, led by Sheridan, who was terminated from his position by the board on July 30, 2018.

TSX- and ASX-listed Champion Iron has reached a one-year joint venture (JV) agreement with CSE-listed Supreme Metals to access claims located on the Bloom Lake East property, adjacent to Champion’s flagship asset – the Bloom Lake iron-ore mine, in Quebec. Supreme conducted magnetic survey work in 2018, identifying iron-ore prospects at Bloom East, which could be of strategic importance to Champion and its subsidiary Quebec Iron Ore (QIO), as it could be considered as a source of iron-ore feed for the Bloom Lake mine’s concentration plant.

The union of supervisors at state miner Codelco's Gabriela Mistral mine in northern Chile has rejected the company's final offer for a new collective labor agreement, raising the specter of a strike in the coming days, the union president told Reuters on Tuesday. The union said Codelco, the world's top copper miner, failed to satisfy its demands for a signing bonus, and that the company was attempting to negotiate different terms for each of the division's unions.

London-listed Anglesey Mining has noted progress of the optimisation study being carried out on its Parys Mountain copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver project, located on the island of Anglesey in North Wales. A promising new vehicle technology, which uses a cobalt-based catalyst, mirrors the world’s current ‘well-to-wheel’ refuelling ecosystem in being designed to allow motorists to call at conventional petrol stations to fill up with the liquid fuel from which hydrogen is extracted and then converted into vehicle-driving electricity. A demonstration plant is scheduled to be built in Israel in April to show that this zero-emission technology provides “twice the range at half the price” when compared with existing electric vehicles.

Canadian junior Leagold Mining has set a production target for 2019 of between 380 000 oz and 420 000 oz, at an all-in sustaining cost (AISC) of between $920/oz and $970/oz. This guidance range incorporates the company’s first full year of contributions from the three mines in Brazil that it acquired in May 2018.

Quebec-based diamond miner Stornoway Diamonds has appointed Hubert Lacroix and Angelina Mehta to its board of directors. Lacroix has more than 30 years of experience in business and law and has expertise in corporate governance

TSX-listed Roxgold expects to produce between 145 000 oz and 155 000 oz gold in 2019, at an all-in sustaining cost of between $765oz and $795/oz. The company produced 132 656 oz in 2018, exceeding its revised guidance of between 120 000 oz and 130 000 oz.

TSX- and NYSE-listed Eldorado Gold exceeded 2018 production guidance, producing 349 147 oz of gold. The target was set at between 290 000 oz and 330 000 oz. Eldorado produced 292 971 oz in 2017.

ASX-listed Finders Resources, through its subsidiary PT Batutua Tembanga Raya (BTR) has entered into an $18-million advance payment transaction with Posco Daewoo Corporation. The advance payment to BTR is in exchange for 4 800t of copper cathode, which will be delivered in shipments of 400 t a month over the next 12 months, starting in February.

Coal developer Atrum Coal could consider an accelerated development at its Elan coal project, in Alberta, in Canada, after adding a further 201-million tonne of resource to the project. The ASX-listed Atrum noted that a total Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource of 201-million tonnes, of which 39-million tonnes were classified as indicated and 162-million tonnes as inferred, had been estimated at the northern Elan tenements.

A definitive feasibility study (DFS) for the Maricunga lithium brine project, in Chile, has estimated that a capital investment of $456-million would be required to develop a 20 000 t/y lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) project with a mine life of 20-years. ASX-listed Lithium Power International on Tuesday reported that the project was estimated to have a net present value of $1.3-billion before tax, and an internal rate of return of 29.8%, with a pay-back period of three-and-a-half years.

NYSE- and TSX-listed Barrick Gold has met its production target for 2018, producing 4.53-million ounces of gold, 1.26-million ounces of which were produced in the final quarter of the year. Although the production performance was in line with its 4.5-million to 5-million guidance for 2018, it fell below 2017’s production of 5.32-million ounces.

The share price of copper developer MOD Resources increased by 50% on Tuesday after the company told shareholders that the A$113-million indicative takeover offer from fellow-listed Sandfire Resources undervalued the company. MOD on Tuesday revealed a A$15-million capital raise to fund working capital to advance its T3 copper project, in Botswana, towards production and for defining additional resources within the surrounding T3 expansion project.

ASX-listed Jervois Mining will acquire TSX-V-listed M2 Cobalt as it seeks to gain a foothold in East Africa. Under the terms of the agreement, each common share of M2 will be exchanged for one common share of Jervois. This represents an implied offer price of C$0.262 apiece, based on the closing price of Jervois’ common shares on the ASX as at January 21.

ASX-listed Universal Coal is on track to achieve forecast earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) guidance of A$93-million for the 2019 financial year. The coal miner achieved Ebitda of A$30.5-million, of which A$17-million was attributable, for the quarter ended December 31, which is an increase of 53% on the previous quarter’s Ebitda of A$20-million, of which A$11-million was attributable.

Zunaid Moti, who owns chrome businesses in South Africa and Zimbabwe, was released from detention in Germany after being held in Munich since August. Moti has returned to South Africa after an arrest warrant issued by Russia was canceled, according to an emailed statement from his company, the Moti Group.

Mining major BHP on Tuesday reported that its bottom-line has been hit with some $600-million following a train derailment at its Western Australian iron-ore operations in November, and other ‘unplanned’ production outages at its Olympic Dam and Spence operations. BHP told shareholders that productivity in the half year ended December had been impacted by lower-than-expected volumes at the Olympic Dam operation, in Western Australia, owing to unplanned acid plant outages in August, which resulted in volumes declining by 45 000 t...
