Canadian-headquartered Trevali Mining’s 90%-owned subsidiary Nantou Mining Burkina Faso has filed an application for liquidation with the Judicial Tribunal of Commerce in Burkina Faso. Under applicable Burkinabe law, a liquidator is expected to be appointed by the Judicial Tribunal in the coming days and such liquidator will assume responsibility for the management of the affairs of Nantou Mining.

Toronto-listed Teck Resources said on Thursday that its third-quarter steelmaking coal sales were 5.6-million tonnes, which was within its revised guidance of 5.5-million to 5.9-million tonnes. The realised steelmaking coal price, however, declined in the quarter, averaging $304/t. This would result in in negative provisional pricing adjustments of $191-million in the third quarter.

Canada-based copper and gold exploration company NGEx has elected to increase its previously announced nonbrokered private placement to an aggregate of up to 15-million shares at C$2 each for gross proceeds of up to C$30-million. The Lundin Group company initially planned to raise C$20-million by selling 10-million shares.

Nickel developer Horizonte Minerals has scaled up its fundraising following significant institutional demand in the bookbuild from existing and new investors. The company on Tuesday announced a placing of £61.7-million (about $70-million), but a day later upsized that to £70.5-million (about $80-million) and scaled back allocations.

Cash-strapped Nevada Copper has received a nonbinding term-sheet proposal from a third-party investor, which will result in a change of control of the company. Together with the previously announced $93-million restart package, the proposed change of control transaction would be sufficient to complete the restart plan of the Pumpkin Hollow underground mine through to positive cashflow, the company reported on Wednesday.

ASX-listed Allegiance Coal has raised an initial A$15-million in the institutional component of it’s A$33.6-million entitlement offer launched earlier this month. The company on October 5 announced an eight-for-five pro-rata renounceable entitlement, priced a 5c a share, to raise A$33.6-million to fund the refurbishment of the Black Warrior and New Elk mines, in British Columbia.

State-owned ports and freight rail operator declared force majeure on the same day that strike action began, the third time Transnet has taken this drastic step since July last year. “At this time, we anticipate that portions of our operations will be scaled down,” Transnet said in a statement. “Transnet Port Terminals is open to having consultations with customers who are willing to engage with our executive team to find practical means aimed at overcoming the effect of this force majeure event.”

ASX-listed lithium developer Allkem has signed a non-binding term sheet with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) over a potential $200-million project finance facility for the Sal de Vida project, in Argentina. IFC’s proposed investment comprises a $200-million debt packing, including up to $100-million from IFC for a tenor of up to nine years, and the remainder to be funded by a syndicate of commercial banks.

After a previous hostile takeover attempt of its partner in the Cascabel project, SolGold on Friday announced that it had reached an agreement for a friendly merger with Cornerstone Capital Resources. TSX- and LSE-listed SolGold will acquire all the issued and outstanding shares of TSX-V-listed Cornerstone for 15 of its own shares for every Cornerstone share held. SolGold may elect to pay up to 20% of the consideration in cash.

Coal miner Stanmore Resources has completed the acquisition of the remaining 20% interest in the BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC) assets, which have been renamed Stanmore SMC. The final price for the acquisition was settled at $270-million, after adjusting for SMC dividends paid to date, which has been paid in full.

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) said that Australia needed to attract more investment in exploration, mining, minerals processing and mining-related manufacturing if the economy is going to benefit from growing global demand for minerals and metals. “There is strong competition for this investment from other mining countries,” said MCA CEO Tania Constable.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (Arena) has awarded A$13.7-million in funding to green energy developer Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and its partner Incitec Pivot (IPL) to fund a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for the development of a large-scale renewable hydrogen production facility and conversion of IPL’s existing Gibson Island ammonia plant to use renewable hydrogen produced by the hydrogen facility. Chile's environmental regulator announced on Thursday four charges against Canadian-owned Lundin copper mine for a sinkhole that appeared at the site of one of its mines the north of the country in late July. The country's SMA environmental regulator said the main infractions were overextraction and construction outside of environmentally approved zones.

Copper producer Kazakhmys Corporation invested in engineering group Sandvik’s wheeled UJ300 crushing unit for its underground copper mining operations. As Kazakhmys was “very impressed” with the productivity and simplicity of operation of the Sandvik mobile jaw crusher, the company has since put five more into operation and is looking to further invest in additional units. Focusing solely on crushing and screening equipment, mining equipment provider Pilot Crushtec offers customers a unique blend of Finnish industrial company Metso Outotec’s and its own brand of mobile machinery equipment, to help optimise overall productivity and profitability.
