Erik ten Hag confirms Man Utd trio have trained but one of them is doubtful
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an update on three first-team stars ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth on the road.
The Red Devils ended a two-match losing streak last weekend as they secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. The second goal came through Alejandro Garnacho in the closing stages of stoppage time.
It was a resounding display despite the small margin of victory and Ten Hag will be expecting a similar performance when they face the Cherries in the South Coast.
Ahead of the game, Ten Hag has confirmed that Varane is definitely available for selection. The Frenchman was substituted against Wolves as a precaution.
The Dutch tactician added that Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford have trained with their teammates but the latter could be doubtful due to an illness.
He told Manutd.com earlier today: “It’s positive on Varane, [he’s] definitely available. Scott [is] joining in training, I think if the final training goes well he’ll be in.”
“Rashy, he trained the whole week but today he reported he doesn’t feel well so he’s ill. We have to see how he recovers during the day and then see tomorrow.”
United have had an ordinary away record in the Premier League this season. They have picked up just one point from their last three games on their travels.
This has allowed Liverpool to close the gap in the race for the final Champions League spot but United still have a healthy advantage over their arch-rivals.
As things stand, the club are one point ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand. They require a maximum of six points from their final three matches to secure a top-four spot.
Ten Hag will be expecting a win in the upcoming visit to the Vitality Stadium. Rashford’s absence would be a blow but United are no longer dependent on him for goals.
Rashford netted 16 times in his 17 appearances after the World Cup but has scored just five goals from the next 17 games. The goals have been evenly distributed within the squad.
