Police say five people were shot outside a nightclub in the nation’s capital. The shootings happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington. Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Ramey Kyle says officers were called after a dispute started inside the nightclub and “spilled into the street.” He says a suspect has been taken into custody and a firearm was recovered. Sean “Diddy” Combs has pushed back against a woman’s lawsuit that accused him of sexual assault. Combs’ lawyers filed a motion Friday to dismiss some claims that were not under law when the alleged incident occurred. The motion claims he cannot be sued because certain laws didn’t exist when Joi Dickerson-Deal made the allegations against him in 1991. A tornado has plowed through suburban Omaha, Nebraska, demolishing homes and businesses as it moved for miles through farmland and into subdivisions. Some injuries have been reported but there were no immediate reports that anyone was killed in the Friday storms. Multiple tornadoes were reported in Nebraska and Iowa, but the most destructive storm moved from a largely rural area into suburbs northwest of Omaha, a city of 485,000 people. A former Colorado sheriff’s deputy has been convicted of a misdemeanor in the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in distress who had called 911 after his car got stuck in a small mountain community. Officials say sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man who sped toward them in a vehicle as they were serving a search warrant in a neighborhood on Friday in Memphis, Tennessee. Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner says deputies were serving the high-risk drug warrant at about 3:30 p.m. when a man who was waiting in a vehicle drove toward a SWAT team at high speed in the Orange Mound neighborhood. An emergency slide fell off a Delta plane that was taking off from New York, and pilots returned to the airport and landed safely. The incident happened Friday after takeoff from JFK Airport. The Boeing 767 was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles with 176 passengers and seven crew members. Delta says passengers were put on another plane to L.A. Delta says it's evaluating the plane and helping with efforts to find the emergency slide.
