CHICAGO (AP) _ Grain futures were mostly lower Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Jul. corn was up 4.25 cents at $4.53 a bushel. Jul. wheat was off 11.5 cents at $6.14 a bushel. Jul. oats fell by 3.75 cents at $3.30 a bushel. Jul. soybeans was unchanged at $11.77 a bushel.

U.S. stocks closed higher following a surprisingly encouraging update on inflation. The S&P 500 rose 0.9% Wednesday, closing at another record high, after the Federal Reserve also gave reassurance that it still sees a cut to interest rates as likely this year. The Nasdaq composite rose 1.5%, also beating the all-time high it set a day earlier. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lagged the market and slipped 0.1%. Noah and Kristen Dweck have seen a number of black bears around their home in Vermont but this was a first. It was a bear relaxing on their hammock. The annual rainy season has arrived with a wallop in much of Florida, where a disorganized disturbance of tropical weather from the Gulf of Mexico has caused street flooding and triggered tornado watches but so far has not caused major damage or injuries. Florida’s rainy season roughly begins in June with a six-month hurricane season, which this year is forecast to be among the most active in recent memory. Police say cadaver dogs have been used to search for a missing western Kentucky baby whose parents and grandfather face child abandonment and drug charges. Kentucky State Police announced last week that troopers were searching for the 8-month-old Miya Rudd. WFIE-TV reports that Trooper Corey King says Miya was to be removed after her umbilical cord tested positive for methamphetamine but around May 30, relatives notified police that they hadn't seen her since April.
