PwC has been fined $166 million in Hong Kong over its audit work for the collapsed Chinese property developer Evergrande. The territory's accounting regulator said Thursday it has also imposed a six-month ban on PwC from taking new clients and sanctioned two former partners. The fines follow a probe that found Evergrande had overstated revenues of over $80 billion in its 2019 and 2020 financial statements which were audited by PwC. Judges at the International Criminal Court have confirmed crimes against humanity charges against former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte for deadly anti-drugs crackdowns he allegedly oversaw while in office. A three-judge panel found unanimously there were “substantial grounds” to believe the ex-leader was responsible for dozens of murders, first as mayor of the southern Philippine city of Davao and later as president. Duterte, 80, was arrested in the Philippines last year and proceedings have been delayed over concerns about his health.

A new study suggests that the comet that rambled past us from another star last year likely originated in a cold, isolated corner of the galaxy that had yet to gel into its own solar system. Astronomers reported the findings Thursday. Comet 3I/Atlas is only the third interstellar visitor to be confirmed and quite possibly the oldest. Two trains have collided in Denmark, leaving five people critically injured. Police have called it a major incident. The collision happened early Thursday near Hillerød, north of Copenhagen. Roughly a dozen others have minor injuries, according to the Greater Copenhagen Fire Department. A spokesperson for the North Zealand police says there were 38 people aboard the two trains. The Senate has taken the first steps in a new effort to reopen the Department of Homeland Security, voting to adopt a budget plan that would fund ICE and Border Patrol over Democratic objections. Lebanon and Israel are set to begin a second session of direct talks in Washington. The discussions scheduled for Thursday are focused on extending a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah and planning future negotiations. The Zambian government claims it has taken custody of former President Edgar Lungu's body in a monthslong and macabre dispute with his family over where he should be buried. Lungu died last June in South Africa at the age of 68. The dispute revolves around Lungu's bitter political rivalry with current Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. Hichilema's government says Lungu should be buried at home in a state funeral.
