Russian government hackers reportedly broke into the Democratic National Committee's computer network sometime in the last year and gained access to the group's internal communications and databases. The hack, according to security experts and DNC officials, specifically targeted opposition research on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, which NBC reports could provide Russia material "in seeking to embarrass or apply pressure to targets."

Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is worried that Donald Trump's combative tone against terrorism might just make things worse. In an interview with Politico following Trump's speech Monday addressing the Orlando shooting, McCaul suggested that Trump's proposals — such as a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S. — might actually aid terrorist recruitment efforts. A former classmate of Orlando shooter Omar Mateen claims that Mateen once asked him out on a date, The Palm Beach Post reports. Though Mateen was not open about his sexuality, the classmate, who asked to remain anonymous, said that he believes that Mateen was gay. "We went to a few gay bars with him," said the classmate, who attended a police academy class with Mateen in 2006. (Mateen did not end up becoming a police officer.)
