Moscow Warns It May Restrict US Media in Russia

Russia is within its rights to restrict the operations of U.S. media organizations in Russia in retaliation for what Moscow calls U.S. pressure on a Kremlin-backed TV station, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Sunday. Russian officials have accused Washington of putting unwarranted pressure on the U.S. operations of RT, a Kremlin-funded broadcaster accused by some in Washington of interfering in domestic U.S. politics, which it denies. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova... Читать дальше...

Members of the U.S. Congress are seeking new tools to stop the flow of cash to the militant group Hezbollah in hopes of reducing its ability to recruit, raise funds and carry out propaganda.   “We have got to double down on the money that's coming in from Iran and coming in from Syria,” said Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and one of the originators of a bipartisan bill to levy new sanctions on the group. Senator Corker Likens White House to 'Adult Day Care'

U.S. President Donald Trump exchanged derogatory tweets with Tennessee Senator Bob Corker of his own party Sunday. Trump wrote that he had refused to endorse Corker for a re-election race which led the senator to drop out, saying Corker had "begged" for the endorsement. "He is also largely responsible for the horrendous Iran Deal!" Trump wrote. "Hence, I would fully expect Corker to be a negative voice and stand in the way of our great agenda. Didn't have the guts to run!"   Corker shot back on Twitter minutes later. Читать дальше...

DRC Lawmakers: Militants Ambush, Kill Travelers in Northeast

Militants ambushed a group of about 30 civilians in northeastern Congo and killed many of them before fighting a fierce battle with the army, politicians said on Sunday. The attack took place near the city of Beni and, if the deaths are confirmed, would be the first mass-killing this year in that area. It has seen relative peace since more than 800 people were killed in dozens of massacres between 2014 and 2016. The spate of attacks raised serious questions about the state's ability to impose... South Africa Revives Ground Breaking Apartheid-Era Musical

The rise and fall of flamboyant, ferocious Ezekiel Dlamini, a black South African boxer known as "King Kong" who was jailed for murder, inspired a 1959 musical whose black cast performed for multi-racial audiences, testing the apartheid system of that era. Now the musical that helped to propel the careers of singer Miriam Makeba and trumpeter Hugh Masekela is back on the stage in South Africa. "King Kong: Legend of a Boxer" highlights the jazz infused with indigenous influences that flourished in some black urban areas... Читать дальше...

Field Commander: Final Assault on Islamic State in Raqqa to Start on Sunday

A final assault on Islamic State's last line of defense in its former Syrian capital Raqqa should begin on Sunday night, a field commander for the U.S.-backed forces operating there said. The loss of Islamic State's remaining streets and buildings in Raqqa following its defeat in Iraq's Mosul this year and its retreat from swathes of territory in both countries, would mark a big moment in the battle to destroy the jihadist group. Germany Moves Against Berlin Hostel Paying Rent to North Korea

As Germany moves to implement sanctions against North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, its efforts seem to be at odds with a private business in Berlin. Poised to tighten financial screws on a regime that is making steady progress toward a nuclear-tipped missile that can threaten the U.S. mainland, the U.N. Security Council passed a resolution in November 2016, which for the first time included a prohibition on using any property that North Korea owns or leases for purposes other than diplomatic activities.
