Iranian Soccer Fans Flock to Ronaldo's Hotel After Saudi Team Arrives in Tehran

Hundreds of soccer fans stormed into a hotel in Tehran on Monday, hoping for a glimpse of star player Cristiano Ronaldo after he arrived with his Saudi teammates ahead of a game.  Chanting "Ronaldo, Ronaldo," the fans pushed past police, filling the corridors and public spaces of the Espinas Palace Hotel.  Ronaldo arrived on his first visit to Iran with the Saudi football club Al-Nassr, which is set to play Iran's Persepolis in Tehran on September 19. Buffalo From Zimbabwe Expose Botswana Cattle to Possible Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Botswana has put restrictions on the movement of cloven-hoofed animals in the northeast of the country after an incursion of buffalo from Zimbabwe put cattle at risk of contracting possible foot-and-mouth disease. Zimbabwe National Parks reports that more than 500 buffalo recently crossed into Botswana from the Hwange National Park in search of water and food. Media Lawyers Call on UN to Help Secure Gershkovich’s Release

At the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva Monday, the legal team for jailed American journalist Evan Gershkovich called on member states to prioritize his case. Speaking to the U.N.’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detentions, the lawyers and advocacy group Article 19 said that Gershkovich’s “wrongful detention violates his human rights under international law.” The statement comes one day before a hearing scheduled in Moscow on Tuesday on Gershkovich’s appeal against the extension of his pretrial detention. Authorities Search for Missing F-35 Jet After Pilot Ejected Over South Carolina

U.S. military officials have asked the public to help search for a missing F-35 fighter jet that disappeared somewhere over South Carolina after a “mishap” caused the pilot to eject. The pilot, whose name has not been released, parachuted safely Sunday into a neighborhood in the coastal city of Charleston, and remains in stable condition after being taken to a nearby hospital. Who Are the US Detainees Released in Prisoner Swap With Iran?

Here is a look at the detainees released Monday as part of a prisoner swap between the United States and Iran. Siamak Namazi  Siamak Namazi, 51, was the longest held Iranian American detainee. He was arrested in 2015 and sentenced the following year to 10 years in Tehran's Evin Prison on charges of espionage. Months later, his father was arrested when he visited Iran to check on his son. Campaigners are urging Australia to allow thousands of migrants whose asylum claims were rejected under a controversial policy to stay. A week-long protest starts Monday outside the offices of Australian Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil over the cases of up to 12,000 asylum seekers who have spent more than a decade on temporary bridging visas but face the threat of deportation. China has flown 103 warplanes towards Taiwan between 6a.m. Sunday and 6a.m. Monday, a "recent high," according to Taiwan's defense ministry. The ministry urged China Monday to stop its "destructive, unilateral action."
