Erik ten Hag gets massive boost as two key United players return to action against Everton
Manchester United have received a major boost as Christian Eriksen and Anthony Martial got some valuable minutes in their 2-0 win over Everton.
Eriksen has been out since January due to an ankle injury he suffered against Reading in the FA Cup fourth-round tie. His absence forced United to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.
The Dane made his long-awaited return with 13 minutes remaining. His cameo was a breath of fresh air as he seamlessly slipped into United’s midfield.
He completed 19 passes with an accuracy of 91%. He tried eight passes in the final third, of which seven were successful.
With Casemiro ending his four-game suspension today, United fans will be hoping to see him reunite with Eriksen in midfield. This would allow Bruno Fernandes to return to his number 10 spot, where he is a treat to watch.
Anthony Martial made his first appearance for the Red Devils in over 70 days as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday. He came on for the final 20 minutes against Brentford in midweek.
Erik ten Hag is being cautious with the striker due to his injury-prone record.
He replaced Antony on the hour-mark and scored United’s second goal of the game. His strike came at a crucial time as Everton were in the ascendency.
His importance to Ten Hag will increase if Rashford remains on the sidelines due to the groin injury he picked up against Everton.
