The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti says nine people have been detained by Tajikistan’s state security service over suspected contact with the perpetrators of last week’s attack by gunmen on a suburban Moscow concert hall that killed 144 people. A mother says she wants justice after her 17-year-old son died when a police SUV ran over him in the Mississippi Delta. Kaychia Calvert says Kadarius Smith and one of his cousins were out walking March 21 when the Leland Police Department vehicle chased them and struck Smith. It has been raining marshmallows in suburban Detroit. A helicopter dropped thousands of the gooey sweet treats onto a park in Southfield Friday in the annual Great Marshmallow Drop. Tens of thousands of lower income riders who rely on greater Boston’s public transit system could soon be getting a break on their fares under a plan approved by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s board of directors. The proposal adopted Thursday would offer riders who are aged 26-64, non-disabled, and have lower incomes reduced fares of about 50% off all MBTA modes, including subway, bus and commuter rail. Authorities say a 9-year-old boy was found dead inside a burning car after his father doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire at a New Jersey high school following a domestic dispute at their family home. Forty-three-year-old Manuel Rivera of Sayreville was charged with aggravated arson, and additional charges are expected. It's not yet known if he's retained an attorney. A former mayor of New Orleans who was convicted on federal corruption charges wants the right to carry a gun, but the path to that is complicated. Ray Nagin has filed a court motion in New Orleans, noting that his federal prison time and supervision ended March 15 and asking for the right to carry a gun and to vote. A tropical cyclone that swept across Madagascar has killed 18 people and left four missing after making landfall on the island's north earlier this week. The storm has also caused severe flooding that partly submerged entire villages. The National Office for Disaster Management also said on Friday that Cyclone Gamane has displaced or affected 47,000 people and that three have been seriously injured in landslides. A former New York City police officer has been acquitted of murder in the shooting of his childhood friend during a confrontation on Long Island. A jury on Thursday convicted 30-year-old Errick Allen only of menacing in the May 12, 2020, shooting of Christopher Curro. Allen was off duty when he shot Curro, his friend from elementary school.
