A powerful earthquake followed by a strong aftershock rocked the Iran-Iraqi border Sunday, killing as many as 61 people. The 7.3 magnitude quake struck Sunday night outside the eastern Iraqi Kurdistan city of Halabja, very close to the Iranian border. It was felt as far away as Turkey and Israel. Iran Hit by 7.2 Magnitude Quake; 6 Deaths Reported

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Iran near its border with Iraq Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. At least six people in Iran have been reported dead, according to state television, which also reported that eight villages had been damaged by the tremors. The epicenter of the quake, which struck at a depth of 33.9 kilometers, was 32 kilometers southwest of Halabjah in Iraq.

Iraqi security forces have found mass graves in an area recently retaken from the Islamic State group that could contain up to 400 bodies, an Iraqi official said Sunday.
