A movie set armorer convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer by Alec Baldwin on the set of the Western film “Rust” is scheduled to be sentenced next month. Court records show an April 15 sentencing is planned for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed in a Santa Fe, New Mexico, courtroom. Gutierrez-Reed was convicted by a jury last week in connection with the death during a movie rehearsal in October 2021. Involuntary manslaughter carries a sentence of up to 18 months in prison. An appeals court has overturned the convictions of a former Georgia police officer who shot and killed an unarmed naked man. Robert “Chip” Olsen responded to a call of a naked man behaving erratically at an Atlanta-area apartment complex in March 2015. He shot and killed 26-year-old Anthony Hill, a black Air Force veteran who’d been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. A proposal to install new leadership in Haiti appears to be crumbling as some political parties rejected the plan to create a presidential council that would manage the transition. The panel would be responsible for selecting an interim prime minister and a council of ministers that would attempt to chart a new path for the Caribbean country that has been overrun by gangs. The violence has closed schools and businesses and disrupted daily life across Haiti.

Olivia Munn has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, thanking her doctors and urging fans to calculate their own risk assessment. She says in an Instagram post on Wednesday that she was lucky it was caught in time. Munn said she took a genetic test in February 2023 and was negative for all cancers. Author and Detroit Free Press columnist Mitch Albom and nine others have been rescued by helicopter from Haiti after becoming stranded in the Caribbean nation while visiting an orphanage. Researchers have linked another kind of amoeba to nasal rinsing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday published a report that for the first time connects Acanthamoeba infections to use of neti pots and other nasal rinsing devices. For years, scientists have known people can become infected with a different germ — a brain-eating amoeba — through the misuse of neti pots. A new study calculates that U.S. oil and natural gas wells, pipelines and compressors are spewing three times the amount of the potent heat-trapping gas methane as the government thinks. Wednesday's study estimates it's causing $9.3 billion in yearly climate damage. It's just a few really bad polluters called super-emitters. Hunter Biden has rejected an invitation from House Republicans to appear for a public hearing next week alongside former business associates. A Connecticut police officer was suspended for five days and arrested on assault charges after punching a motorist during an altercation while off duty in December. Dash cam video made public following a freedom of information request shows Meriden police Corporal Allen Ganter punching the motorist, Thomas Brocuglio, in the face through his driver’s side window after the two argued on December 8, 2023, over why Ganter wasn’t turning right at a red light. A landslide has destroyed a hillside home and is imperiling at least two others in Los Angeles. The slide occurred just before 3 a.m. in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. The fire department says an initial search found no victims, but several people were evacuated from one house. There was no immediate word on the cause of the landslide, but many have been occurring in Southern California due to winter storms that have saturated the ground. Mississippi Republican Gov. Tate Reeves has signed a new law that will allow women to receive Medicaid coverage earlier in pregnancy. It's an effort to improve health outcomes for mothers and babies in a poor state with the worst rate of infant mortality in the U.S. The law will take effect July 1. It will allow up to 60 days of “presumptive eligibility” for Medicaid.
