Humorous and quirky messages on electronic signs will soon be disappearing from highways and freeways across the country. The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has given states two years to make changes outlined in its new 1,100-page manual released last month. The rules spell out how signs and other traffic control devices are regulated. Administration officials say electronic signs with obscure meanings, references to pop culture or those intended to be funny will be banned in 2026 because they can be misunderstood or distracting. Authorities say a small plane carrying three people has crashed in a remote, wooded area of Massachusetts. Police reported multiple fatalities on Sunday. The Federal Aviation Administration says the twin-engine Beechcraft Baron 55 crashed near Leyden, Massachusetts, with three people on board. A Massachusetts State Police spokesperson says multiple agencies were notified of the crash in the Leyden Wildlife Management Area near Greenfield at around 11:45 a.m. Police are not releasing any further details while the investigation was ongoing. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum endorsed Donald Trump’s comeback bid for the White House ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Burgum appeared on stage with Tr8ump at a rally Sunday in Indianola and heaped praise on the former president. His endorsement comes just over a month after Burgum ended his own longshot campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Burgum did not catch fire or build a substantial base in his own campaign. His support for Trump is unlikely to make a difference in the Monday caucuses, which Trump is expected to dominate.

An Iowa principal who put himself in harm's way to protect students during a school shooting earlier this month has died. Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory confirmed the death of Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger after the family announced it on a GoFundMe page. Marburger died Sunday morning after he was critically injured during the Jan. 4 attack. An 11-year-old was also killed in the shooting, and six other people were injured before the 17-year-old shooter died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A Danish broadcaster says that Queen Margrethe II has signed her historic abdication. It's a step that paves the way for her son Frederik X to immediately become king. The 83-year-old Margrethe is the first Danish monarch to voluntarily relinquish the throne in nearly 900 years since King Erik III Lam stepped down to enter a monastery in 1146. French authorities say five people have been found dead in another maritime tragedy involving migrants trying to cross the dangerous English Channel from northern France.
